November has been a weird one with stresses of all sorts (political, economic, personal) and unexpected happenings coming from all angles. If you’re in the US, I hope you had a restful Thanksgiving and took some time to disconnect from the noise. If Thanksgiving turns out to be a stressful time for you, I hope you at least got to take a long weekend with some time for yourself. Either way, I’m thankful that you’re here with me.
Here’s your rundown for November.
What I’m Reading
Books
I recently finished Happier Hour: How to Beat Distraction, Expand Your Time, and Focus on What Matters Most by Cassie Holmes. You might have realized by now that time is something I’m obsessed with - how we spend it, how to make it count, how to use it effectively. I bought this book because I heard Holmes interviewed on Hidden Brain and she told the host that one of the exercises she asked her students to do in her program on happiness is write their own eulogy. I immediately thought about what I would want people to say about me when I’m gone and if my everyday actions were living up to those attributes. This is just one of the great, practical exercises that Holmes provides in the book in addition to much more mundane ones about how to beat distraction and structure your time more effectively.
